First off, Joel Schumacher's Blood Creek is a hell of a fun movie. It's full of nazi horror and I loved it. The beginning, shot in black and white, looks really nice and brought this cool atmosphere to the film that really played off the story really well.
However, there are story problems throughout the film that ultimately bring it down to the average horror film.
The performances are what truly make and break the film ultimately. Michael Fassbender is weird, no denying that, but everytime he….
All you snobs butt-hurt by those Batman pictures need to give Schumacher a break. When his films commit to a gritty genre they can be a lot of fun and have some darkly charming eccentricities eg.
Blood Creek is no masterpiece, but it has a cool occult nazi concept, smartly sticks to a single location, and features a monstrous Fassbender just chewing up the scenery, all concluded in a clean 90mins.
I would, however, rather have watched the possible sequel that was set up in those final moments. Joel Schumacher is a confusing man. How can somebody who completely destroyed the Batman films also be responsible for such an interestingly different horror film?
Blood Creek is an entertaining bloody little gem. The cast is comprised of a few actors that are now famous like Magneto, Superman, Dracula and that guy you know you've seen somewhere Shea Whigham.
Everybody delivers intensely serious performances without a weak link in the bunch. The real star of Blood Creek however is the writing.
There's a compelling central mystery that also provides room for a touching story about family. Michael Fassbender is a super creepy Nazi monster with magic powers and the end is gripping if not a little disappointing.

It's got a great set up, a decent before they were famous cast and Schumacher was always an interesting filmmaker but Blood Creek never really amounts to a whole lot.
It all looks good and has some fun ideas in play but there's a real sense that a more interesting film was cut to bits in order to deliver the kind of PG thrills that the world loves.
If there's anything redeeming to say about this, I guess it's interesting to see the moment when a pretty good director specifically within the Hollywood system of the 80's and 90's completely loses it and can no longer to do the thing he used to be pretty good at.
