It's both brilliantly cerebral and mind bogglingly complex. But the movie tightly tells the complex story in 90 minutes, without sacrificing any nuance.
It's one of the few movies that I can say I instantly knew I was going to buy the blu-ray right after the credits rolled.
Among the many impressive aspects to the story, is the story-telling structure. However most importantly, Predestination feels like an original film bolstered by performances from the always great Ethan Hawke, as well as the career making turn from Sarah Snook.
The depths both of them take their roles, but particularly Snook, is fascinating. And surprisingly neither of them were considered for Oscar noms in In short, Predestination is one of the best sci-fi's of the last decade.

Sarah Snook makes for a sympathetic lead. The time travel special effect has a great visceral feeling to it. All-in-all, Predestination is a compelling watch and a must-see for fans of intelligent sci-fi.

The writing is especially clever, and explores issues of free will, time paradoxes, identity, and fate. And, Ethan Hawke gives an incredibly performance that's quite powerful.
However, the plot gets a little convoluted at times, and it doesn't really come into focus until the end. Still, Predestination is a compelling and provocative film that's incredibly daring.

This movie avoids both by not trying to surprise and shock the viewer but rather act more as a mystery novel - unfolding with precision, letting the viewers participate in the events and discoveries to come.
Much like a good old Agatha Christie book would successfully do. The Spierig brothers keep getting better with each movie and this is a great step forward in what seems to be a promising career.
There is nothing new under the Time Travel sun but the delivery is excellent which makes this movie worth watching - at least twice, as any good Time Travel movie requires.

This yarn - based on sci-fi legend Robert Heinlein's short story All You Zombies - is never less than intriguing, even if it does threaten to unravel at the slightest tug on a thread of loose logic.

Like all time-travel stories, this inevitably trips on its own causal illogic - but not before it's offered you a taste of something genuinely rich and strange, and probably toxic.
Peter Bradshaw. The most interesting time-travel movie since Primer. Adam Woodward. Predestination's pace is too slack, and the brothers are so painfully tentative as storytellers that the easily guessed big twist gets three separate reveals.
Kyle Anderson. A messy but affecting parable about fate, gender, and identity. And time, which combines the three.
Peter Keough. Challenges the ultimate impossibility with themes of existence, procreation, choices, destiny, and whether the end justifies the means And the word "degree" will have a new meaning when you realize the full story.
Nathalia Aryani. Never what you expect, Predestination can become something of a narrative jumble, but it's always compelling to watch, and the landscape continually shifts beneath your feet.
Brent McKnight. Perhaps more ambitious than its means, it's a film that manages to intrigue and engross with a narrative that virtually creates the odor of the musty, yellowed pages of the writing style it's been borrowed from.
