In the bad but watchable movie genre the star for ""psuedoSciFi" but again, almost no one does real sci fi anymore is The Asylum, and while most of their pics are so stupidly absurd and so filled with moronic characters I turn them off after a few minutes, some produce guffaws Global Meltdown is simply a Sci Fi story that starts from a premise and explores what would happen if it occurred, in a very realistic and human-centered tale that, while not flawless and suffering somewhat from what the good scifi novel never does -having to fit what more likely would occur over a longer stretch of time into a few days of story and a mere 90 minutes of film- brings in the very real points none of us want to ever have to think about, much less be prepared to face.

The essence of science fiction, prior to the "syfy"-style utterly dumbing down of it into psuedoscience fantasy, was a combination of specuative science and either science based gadgetry or human response to or interaction with such gadgetry or human interaction with each other and the culture the speculative science produced.

There was the ethical news crew, stunned, bewildered tag alongs or Red Shirts, if you get that reference , the perpetually angry survivalist with a hair trigger, a "Steve Jobs-like" sociopathic recluse, and other apparently eminently forgettable psychological profiles played by actors who phoned it in.

There were plot holes big enough to lose super-volcanoes in. The thing it most lacked was any kind of common sense. Yes, it was a world-ending "disaster", but people don't lose their sensibility AS MUCH as these folks seemed to have done.

It was so contrived it was impossible to suspend disbelief. The effects are OK not stellar by any stretch. The acting is actually credible, but remember, you're dealing with stereotypes, so it's not like anyone had to stretch any acting muscles to get there.

By the time I bailed, I hoped Earth would win and wipe them all out. At least that would have given me the satisfaction I'd not get thinking any of the yahoos still alive when I bailed might be the only ones left to repopulate the earth in the end not that one can repopulate the earth with so small of a group, of course, which is another point not considered - at least by the time I stopped the agony.

Normally, I give shows I don't actually finish watching just one star, but people should know, this didn't really rate the two stars I gave it.

I've seen it and this movie sells them way too short. If you want to make a drinking game out of this, use a very low alcoholic beverage, because the body count is fairly high.

Other than that, I see little or no redeeming value to it. This is an amateur production to be sure, but the acting, script and production quality are considerably better than many other low budget schlock disaster films churned out in the last decade.

The CGI effects are not all laughably bad, but on a couple of occasions they approach Birdemic-level cheapness.
